The study aimed to analyze the macronutrient and micronutrient values of plant-based and dairy yoghurts launched between 2016 and 2021. It concluded that dairy yoghurts provide significant dietary nutrients, suggesting that substituting them with plant-based yoghurts may have unintended nutritional consequences.
Oat yoghurts were found to have lower levels of total sugar, sodium, and saturated fat following almond yoghurts. The study proposed that fortification could be an opportunity for the food industry to enhance the nutritional composition of plant-based yoghurts.
Dieticians Khushboo Sahijwani Matta and Yogita Chavan shared their perspectives on the topic.
